Where are we at?

If you’re at this page, you’ve heard about D.

I have not been getting the most accurate information from him so far because even he doesn’t fully understand it all. A couple of days ago, he said his cancer markers were way down from his bloodwork, but it turns out – they’re not. They’re still left over from the surgery, and Mary Jane apparently makes HcG show up more in the blood. Good times.

So far: He has had surgery to remove the initial mass. In the original CT (no contrast), his lymph nodes were observed to be enlarged, as well as several 1-2 cm masses throughout the pelvic region. Bloodwork revealed very high levels of HcG and AFP (cancer markers – more on that later). Today he has a repeat CT, this time with contrast, and we go over the results in a few days. Pulmonary function test coming up as well as a meeting with the Oncologist to see what our options are.

A biopsy is also scheduled to see whether the masses are benign or not. I’m not optimistic that they are given the bloodwork results. But no matter what, failure is not an option here and he understands that. I have never seen such bravery in a young man before; he’s truly inspiring!
